About this gate
A black steel garden gate with matching railings running off it, closing a side access between a house and a boundary wall.
Side access gates are worth doing properly. They are the point most opportunist entries are made, and a gate that looks the part but is hung on light hinges into crumbling mortar is not securing anything. We fix into sound masonry, use hinges rated for the leaf weight, and fit a lock appropriate to what is behind the gate.
Matching the railings
Making the gate and the railing run at the same time, in the same workshop, means the bar spacing, the top rail height and the finish all match exactly. Ordering them separately is where most side access installations start to look mismatched.
