A close view of decorative scrolled steel balustrade panels, showing the scroll work and the collars that tie the elements together.
This is hand-formed rather than assembled from bought-in castings. Each scroll is worked to shape, and the collars are fitted and dressed so the joint is part of the design rather than something hidden. It takes considerably longer than bolting together a kit of parts, and at this distance the difference is obvious.
Decorative panel work of this kind belongs on period properties, stone frontages, churches and public buildings, and anywhere a plain vertical bar balustrade would look thin against the architecture around it.
