Fire Escapes
Unit 11, Denholme Business Centre, Halifax Road, Denholme, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD13 4EN
A galvanised external staircase with a half landing and a turn, taking the flight down in two runs rather than one long straight drop.
Half landings do two jobs. They break a long descent into manageable runs, which matters when a building is being evacuated, and they let a staircase turn back on itself so it fits against the building instead of projecting a long way out into a yard or car park.
The detail people get wrong on a turned flight is the handrail. It has to be continuous through the landing rather than stopping and restarting, and it needs to stay graspable the whole way. Somebody coming down that stair in an emergency should never have to let go and find it again.
