About this balustrade
A black steel balustrade enclosing a raised patio, with vertical bar infill and a flat top rail.
Once a patio, deck or terrace sits more than 600mm above the ground around it, guarding is required, and in a domestic setting it generally needs to be 1100mm high with no gap that will pass a 100mm sphere.
Why vertical bar
Horizontal infill looks superb and we are asked for it regularly, but on anything domestic where children have access it forms a ladder. We will always say so. Vertical bar, glass and perforated panels all give the same clean modern line while complying, and we would rather have that conversation at quotation stage than after installation.
